Abstract

The parenting pattern of a mother describes how the mother nurtures, cares for, keeps, and educates
the children. Parenting pattern is an influential factor in a child's linguistic development. The parenting pattern
has four variations. They are democratic, authoritarian, permissive, pampering, and neglecting. This research
determined the correlation between the parenting pattern of younger mothers toward the linguistic development
of children aged 3-6 years old. The researcher took 52 younger mothers with children aged from 3-6 years old
with a total sampling technique. The applied instruments were the parenting pattern and the child's linguistic
development questionnaires. From the analysis results, the parenting patterns of younger mothers toward the
linguistic development of children aged 3-6 years old were dominated by democratic parenting patterns, 75.0%.
Then, the remaining percentage was authoritarian parenting patterns, 25%. The researchers found a percentage
of 63.5% of children with proper linguistic development while a percentage of 36.5% of children with
inadequate linguistic development. The analysis with Fisher Exact (p-value of 0.001) indicated the correlation
between the parenting patterns of younger mothers toward the linguistic development of children aged 3-6 years
old in Menawan Administrative Village, Purwodadi. The results recommend younger mothers guide, monitor,
and control flexibly. The researcher also recommends the mothers cooperate with the children to realize
excellent growth and development based on the children's ages. The health workers must socialize the early
detection and simulation of child development.
