Abstract

Children with autism have some characteristics, such as lower motoric skills. Thus, they have
difficulties promoting hand motion. Fine motoric skill refers to the skills related to physical capabilities with small muscles and hand-eye coordination to meet the developmental skills and growth. Fine motoric skills for children can be trained via various therapies, such as Finger Painting therapy. Finger painting therapy is a therapy to draw something with fingers directly without any drawing equipment.
This research determined the characteristics of children with autism, starting from the sex types and ages; determining the fine motoric skill before and after the intervention of finger painting; determining the fine motoric skill after the intervention; analyzing the influence of the intervention on the fine motoric skill of the children with autism. The population consisted of 32 respondents taken with total sampling. The applied method was a pre experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that the fine motoric skill of the children increased significantly from average to very excellent, 15.6% to 84.4%. The Wilcoxon test obtained a p-value of 0.000, lower than 0.05.

The result indicated the influence of Finger Painting therapy on the fine motoric skill of children with autism. The implementation of the research results could be applied, developed, and used as an alternative to train the fine motoric skill of children with autism.
