Abstract

Elder people frequently have a sleeping problem: insomnia. This problem leads to health status. Insomnia or lack of
sleeping quality and quantity happens due to the difficulty to start sleeping. People with this sleeping problem are
frequently woken up and are difficult to sleep again. They also wake up too early and cannot sleep well. The
implementation of non-pharmacological implementation may include progressive muscular relaxation and warm-water
soaking feet. This research determined the effective difference between progressive muscular relaxation and warmwater soaking feet toward insomnia of elder people at the Social Service House for Elderly, "Pucang Gading". This
quasi-experimental research used two group pre and post-test design without a control group. The sample consisted of
90 respondents. The researcher took the sample with a total sampling technique. The measuring tool was KSPBJ-IRS.
The statistic test result was the Fisher test. Then, the effectiveness test for the applied interventions was the MannWhitney test. The results showed no influence of progressive muscular relaxation on the sleeping problem, and
insomnia. The Fisher test obtained a p-value of 0.338, higher than 0.05. The research also found no influence of warmwater soaking feet on the sleeping problem, or insomnia, for elder people. The Fisher test obtained a p-value of0.677.
The Mann-Whitney test obtained a p-value of 0.401, indicating no effective difference between progressive muscular
relaxation and warm-water soaking feet toward a sleeping problem, insomnia, at the Social Service House for Elderly,
"Pucang Gading." The results recommend further researchers pay attention to the influential indicators of a sleeping
problem, insomnia, for elder people.
